The National Weather Service (NWS) in Mobile, Alabama, has issued an alert for dangerous rip currents along the coasts of Okaloosa, Santa Rosa and Escambia counties in Florida, and Mobile and Baldwin counties in Alabama. The alert was issued at 6:54 a.m. CDT on Oct. 25, 2026, and covers the period through Monday afternoon, Oct. 26, according to the NWS alert.

The alert says rip currents can sweep even strong swimmers away from shore into deeper water. It recommends swimming near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, the NWS advises staying calm and floating, not swimming against the current, and swimming parallel to the shoreline. If you cannot escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
