How many Florida homeowners get lower insurance rates in October 2026?
Over 824,300 Florida homeowners will receive rate decreases in new policies or renewals this month, the OIR said in the Oct. 29, 2026, release. The decreases include some of up to 12.1%. The size of the change depends on the insurance company, so not every policyholder sees the same cut.
Florida Insurance Commissioner Mike Yaworsky and Chief Financial Officer Blaise Ingoglia issued the release from Tallahassee. It describes the decreases as requests from major insurance companies that became effective in October.
How many insurers have asked for rate decreases since 2024?
Since January 2024, 48 companies have filed for a rate decrease, and 53 companies have requested no change or a 0% increase, according to the OIR release. The release describes these as filings and requests, not approved rate changes.
Are more homeowners insurance rate decreases coming?
The OIR says it has multiple rate decrease requests pending that would take effect in November, December and January. The release says this includes an additional 450,000 Floridians who would receive decreases.
The release says: “OIR continues to review multiple pending requests for rate decreases with more decreases coming this November and December.” Yaworsky said the office plans to announce more decreases in the next two months and into the new year. He also said that in some cases the office is pushing companies for larger decreases if its actuaries determine they can afford them.
Which insurers already cut homeowners rates in August 2026?
The OIR release also cites two filings from August that are already in effect:
| Company | Change | Consumers affected |
|---|---|---|
| American Integrity Insurance Company | -0.3% | 184,000 |
| American Integrity Insurance Company | -12.3% | 8,900 |
The release also lists a decrease from Florida Family Home Insurance Company for 20,700 consumers.
What does this mean for homeowners on the Emerald Coast?
The release is statewide and does not mention any county, including Okaloosa, Santa Rosa, Walton or Bay counties. It does not say which insurers’ decreases apply in the Florida Panhandle. Homeowners who are renewing can ask their insurance company or agent whether a decrease applies to their policy.
The release’s list of October rate decrease requests appears only as a table that is not included in the text of the release available to Grand Strand Desk. This article therefore does not name the companies involved in the October decreases.
