Federal individual assistance is approved for residents affected by Hurricane Isaias in Okaloosa County and seven other counties, the Okaloosa County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) said in a notice posted Oct. 29 at 3:30 p.m. The other counties are Escambia, Santa Rosa, Walton, Bay, Gulf, Holmes and Washington.

Who can apply and how

The EOC says the assistance can help eligible individuals and families with housing, home repairs and other needs related to the disaster. Impacted homeowners and renters can apply through three official channels:

  • Online: DisasterAssistance.gov
  • Mobile app: the FEMA app on a smartphone or tablet
  • Phone: 1-800-621-3362 (TTY 1-800-462-7585)

How the request got here

On Oct. 27, President Donald J. Trump granted a Major Disaster Declaration for Okaloosa County, according to the EOC’s notice of Oct. 28. That notice listed Public Assistance as approved, while Hazard Mitigation and Individual Assistance were under review.

The same notice asked residents to report storm damage with photos through the county’s Survey123 form, saying the reports would support the request for individual assistance. At that time, the EOC said 472 individual submissions had been received. That count is from Oct. 28 and may have changed.

What the notice does not say

The EOC notice does not give a deadline to apply, the maximum amount of aid or the specific types of assistance available. Check DisasterAssistance.gov or call the FEMA helpline for those details.
