Since Sept. 23, 2026, the county provides animal control in unincorporated areas under a 'Light' model, with Crestview north of Eglin Air Force Base and the county to the south. The PAWS contract ended Sept. 22, but PAWS still serves Destin, Fort Walton Beach and Mary Esther until various dates in 2027.
