Walton County is approved for Public Assistance

Walton County, in the Florida Panhandle, is approved for Public Assistance (PA) from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). President Donald J. Trump approved the Major Disaster Declaration (FEMA-4955-DR) for Florida on Oct. 27, 2026, following Hurricane Isaias, according to the county’s alert.

What Public Assistance covers

The county says PA supports eligible emergency response and recovery costs, including repairs to disaster-damaged public facilities. The alert does not list which public facilities in Walton County are covered or how much money the county expects to receive.

What is still under review

Individual Assistance (IA), which is aid for residents and households, remains under review. Hazard Mitigation assistance, which funds steps to reduce future damage from disasters, is also under review, the county said. The alert does not give a date for a decision on individual aid, and it does not describe how residents would apply.

What could change

The county said more assistance programs and county designations may be approved as damage assessments continue. Residents should follow Walton County Emergency Management’s official channels for updates on federal assistance and recovery resources.

What officials said

Walton County Emergency Management Director Jeff Goldberg said in the county’s update: “This declaration is a big step forward for Walton County, and we appreciate the support of our state and federal partners.” The update says Hurricane Isaias affected communities across the Florida Panhandle from Oct. 6 to 12, 2026.
