Full-speed math: size in gigabytes x 8,000 / speed in megabits per second. Real downloads are often slower, because Wi-Fi, other devices at home and the store's servers all take a share. Your numbers stay in your browser.

Slow internet, or none at home?

A big game is one long download. These steps help on a slow line, a phone hotspot or a vacation rental's Wi-Fi. 4.6% of homes on the Emerald Coast have no internet subscription, and 11.4% rely only on a phone data plan (Census Bureau).

  1. Start earlyPreloading opens a week before launch. Starting that night spreads a slow download over several days instead of one evening.
  2. Let it run overnightFewer people at home are streaming or on video calls, so the console gets more of the line.
  3. Use a cableA cable from the router to the console is usually steadier than Wi-Fi, especially through walls.
  4. Pause other downloadsPhone backups, TV streaming and computer updates all share the same connection.
  5. Visiting?Rental Wi-Fi is shared by everyone in the house. Download at home before the trip, and ask the host about the connection if you plan to play online.
  6. Watch phone dataA phone plan with a monthly data cap can run out on one large game. Check your plan before using a hotspot.

For parents: GTA VI is rated M

  • PlayStation 5

PlayStation Family app: age levels for games and apps, daily play time, a monthly spending limit (it starts at $0) and who can message your child.

  • PlayStation 5 (on the console)

On the console: how long and during which hours your child can play, every day or on chosen days. Set by the family manager or a parent they appoint.

  • Xbox Series X|S

Xbox Family Settings app: screen time schedules, Ask to Buy for games and in-game purchases, spending history and who your child can play with online.
