Okaloosa County‘s Planning Commission will hear two requests to change the future land use of parcels in Crestview at its meeting on Nov. 12, 2026, according to the county’s agenda package.
When and where the hearing is
The meeting starts at 5:01 p.m. in the Commissioner’s Chambers at the Okaloosa County Administrative Complex, 1250 Eglin Parkway North, in Shalimar, Florida.
What the 41-acre request would do
The applicant asks the county to change the Future Land Use Map (FLUM), the county comprehensive plan map that sets allowed land uses, for 41.05 acres, more or less, of a parcel at 3985 Highway 90 East from Agriculture (AG) to Industrial (I). If the FLUM change is approved, the applicant also seeks to rezone the same land from Agriculture (AA) to Industrial (I-1). The 13.05-acre remainder of the 54.25-acre parcel, which fronts US 90 East, would keep its agriculture designation and continue its existing shooting range and sporting clays use, which the staff report says is permitted under AA zoning.
The site is vacant and currently used as an outdoor gun range. The applicant proposes dedicating about 200 feet of road right-of-way at the southeast corner, aligned with existing Jericho Road south of US 90 East. The conceptual site plan also includes a road aligned with Randi Road to the east, which would give the county right-of-way to extend Randi Road west.
The 12.65-acre request on Jace Drive
A second request covers 12.65 acres, more or less, on Jace Drive in Crestview, with the same change from Agriculture to Industrial and a companion rezoning from AA to I-1. The agenda lists single-family homes to the north and east, vacant land and a gun range to the south, and Healing Hoof Steps, an equine therapy business, to the west.
Under I-1 zoning, the staff excerpt says junk yards and contractors’ equipment yards are permitted on at least two acres, along with construction and demolition landfills and municipal solid waste transfer stations.
Other items on the agenda
The agenda also includes a request to change 11.06 acres at 3176 James Kennedy Road in Crestview from Low Density Residential to Agriculture, with rezoning from R-1 to AA. A public hearing is also scheduled on a proposed text amendment to the county comprehensive plan on residential compatibility factors, required under Florida House Bill 399.
Public notice and comment
The county says the items were advertised in the Northwest Florida Daily News on Oct. 28, 2026, and that certified letters went to property owners within 300 feet. Staff reports written opposition from five people to the two Crestview land use requests. The agenda package does not show a vote, so none of the changes can be considered approved at this time.
