What FEMA Individual Assistance can cover

According to the county, assistance may include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-interest loans to cover uninsured property losses, and other programs for individuals and families recovering from the storm. Residents who had damage or losses should file a claim with their insurance provider before applying for federal assistance.

How to apply without going to a registration point

The county lists three other options:

  • Online at DisasterAssistance.gov, entering your location and clicking “Apply Online.”
  • By phone, calling the FEMA Helpline at 1-800-621-3362 (TTY 1-800-462-7585). The toll-free numbers are open every day from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • With the FEMA mobile app.

Residents who use a relay service, such as video relay service (VRS) or captioned telephone service, should give FEMA the number for that service when applying.

What the county has not said

The News Flash does not give a deadline for applying for individual assistance. Readers should confirm the deadline with FEMA or the county before delaying an application.
